Condensation

Concept Explanation

Condensation

Condensation: The process of conversation of water vapour into its liquid called condensation. It is opposite to evaporation.

Example: In nature, water vapours in the air condense to form liquid i.e. dew. Condensation takes place only when water vapours hit the cold surface.

Also water condenses into a liquid after making contact with the surfac of a cold bottle. The process of Condensation is also present in air conditioners.

Evaporation and condensation are used for separating a soluble solid from water. For example; salt can be separated from a solution of salt and water (that is sea water); by using the combination of evaporation and condensation.

Water from the surface of the Earth enters into atmosphere due to evaporation by the sun from the seas, oceans and rivers. As the water moves higher, it begins to cool down and condenses to form clouds. That causes rain or snowfall depending upon the temperature. This is known as water cycle.
